ANTHC Small Changes Campaign

Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium’s (ANTHC) Wellness Strategies for Health (WSH) Program, a Good Health and Wellness in Indian Country (GHWIC) grantee, implemented a multi-faceted media campaign at the statewide level. The “Small Changes Campaign” focuses on promoting small attainable steps toward one’s health, addressing all four of the GHWIC strategies. Some of the small lifestyle change examples include cultural activities such as traditional song and dance, healthy sleep habits, drinking more water, and eating traditional foods. The campaign focuses on the message that, “the journey to a healthier you starts with a single step.” These video ads direct individuals to the Small Changes website that further links individuals to a free online lifestyle program, information on healthy and traditional foods, and a link to the state Tobacco Quit Line.

Multiple products were developed for the campaign, including video ads, which were placed in statewide channels during 2021 to 2023. Statewide partners including Copper River Native Association, Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, ANTHC’s Diabetes Program, and ANTHC Marketing Department are using the Small Changes Campaign in tailored campaigns for clinics, newsletters, and social media posts in Alaska. These ads encouraged healthy habits that combat chronic disease, allowed for Alaska Native and American Indian individuals from across the state to benefit from GHWIC efforts, and connected those individuals to resources and partner programs that promote health and combat chronic disease.
